Sheffield Wednesday's Peter Gilbert is out for up to nine months with a knee injury.
Sheffield Wednesday defender Peter Gilbert has been ruled out for the rest of the season after tearing his cruciate knee ligament.
The 22-year-old, who joined The Owls from Championship rivals Leicester City during the January transfer window, has been playing with the knee problem for several weeks.
The former Birmingham City and Plymouth Argyle left back will not only miss Wednesday's season run-in, but is expected to be sidelined for up to nine months.
Gilbert will now begin his lengthy rehabilitation - in the hopes he can appear again at some stage next season.
Meanwhile, fellow Owls defender Rory McArdle has returned to Hillsborough this week after ending his long-term loan with League Two club Rochdale.
