Midfielder released from the final year of his Hillsborough contract

Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed midfielder Darren Potter has left Hillsborough by mutual consent. Potter initially joined the Owls from Wolves on loan in January 2009 before sealing a permanent deal with the club later that year. He scored nine goals in 106 appearances during his time with the League One side, but has been released from the final year of his contract. His departure will free up space in manager Gary Megson's squad as the Owls boss plots a return to the Championship for the club next season. Megson has already signed David Prutton to increase his options in midfield and is keen to bring in nine fresh faces ahead of the new campaign.
