Northern Ireland Under-21 international Lavery's contract expires in the summer, while Palmer's current two-and-a-half-year deal is set to run until the summer of 2015.
"The most important thing I've said to Caolan and Liam Palmer is that they're wanted," Gray told a press conference ahead of Tuesday night's home league game against QPR.
"We want them to stay and that's now down to the people upstairs and the players' agents to deal with the contracts and thrash it out.
"I've said to both of them that what I can't have it do is affect your performances.
"They can't worry or control that, what they must do is concentrate on what you can do on the football pitch and what they have been doing and producing is fantastic and they have to continue that.
"It will get sorted out. We want them to stay, the boys want to stay and like I've said before, the more lads you can bring in through the academy, that take great pride in wearing the Sheffield Wednesday shirt, would be great for the club.
"Negotiations are going on. Liam's got a bit more length on his contract. The younger players, who we feel have got a long-term future here, we want to get bedded down."
Lavery has made 10 appearances for the Owls since returning from a loan spell at Plymouth in January and fired a double in the weekend win against Birmingham.
Palmer has made 35 appearances for the club this season after spending the previous campaign on loan at Tranmere.
