Lewis McGugan believes Sheffield Wednesday are realistic Sky Bet Championship play-off challengers after returning to the club on loan.

Watford midfielder McGugan started in all seven of Wednesday's matches during his previous spell at the club between November and December and is delighted to be back at Hillsborough.

"I wanted to go to a club where I felt wanted and hopefully I can repay everyone now with my performances," he told the club's official website.

"The fans have been tremendous with me, made me feel welcome and that is a strong reason for coming back.

"I want to hit the ground running and get down to work quickly."

Wednesday have taken only one point from their last three league games and are nine points adrift of the top six.

"We have a strong base, we don't concede a lot of goals and that's massive to have. We need to build on that," he added.

"I've been in this league long enough to know that anything is possible, there's always one team that rises from the pack so I don't see why that can't be us."
