Glenn Loovens: Doubtful for Saturday's clash

Sheffield Wednesday boss Stuart Gray has confirmed key defender Glenn Loovens faces six to eight weeks on the sidelines with a fractured ankle.

The 31-year-old centre-back suffered the injury ahead of last Saturday's goalless draw against Brighton at Hillsborough and has been told he will miss the best part of the rest of the season.

"We have lost Loovens who is going to be out long term," Gray said.

"Unfortunately he is going to need surgery. They are going to have to pin it, which is bad news for Glenn.

"You are looking at a six to eight-week period where he will be out, but that is football. It's disappointing for Glenn and Sheffield Wednesday but we have to get on with it.

"The most important thing is that Glenn does get back."

The news is a major blow to an Owls outfit without a win in six Sky Bet Championship games.
