David Prutton's EFL predictions

Prutton's Predictions

David Prutton returns with his predictions ahead of this weekend's Sky Bet EFL matches.

But who is our resident expert tipping for victory? Read on to find out...

Norwich v Ipswich, Sunday 12pm - Live on Sky Sports Football

These two sides could not be any closer together heading into this game on Sunday. Only goal difference separates them and this could be the last-chance saloon for either to try and force their way into play-off contention.

Victory for either could kick-start a charge up the table, while defeat will surely ensure mid-table obscurity. Norwich nicked this one at Portman Road back in October, and I fancy them to do the same here.

Prutton predicts: 2-1 with James Maddison to score first (25/1 with Sky Bet)

Leeds v Bristol City, Sunday 4.30pm - Live on Sky Sports Football

Leeds' win at Ashton Gate was arguably their best performance of the season. The problem for Thomas Christiansen, however, was that result came in between three defeats on either side, and that's one of the reasons that Paul Heckingbottom is now in charge.

The former Barnsley man didn't get off to the best of starts at Sheffield United last week, and will hope to get up and running in his first home game. Bristol City remain one of the toughest sides in the division this season and I think this will be an entertaining draw.

Blackburn v Bury, Monday 7.45pm - Live on Sky Sports Football

That was a massive result for Blackburn to snatch a win so late at Portsmouth in midweek, especially with Wigan losing their second game in a row. Rovers have played more games than the Latics and Shrewsbury but the battle for automatic promotion in League One is still incredibly tight right now.

Bury are still drawing too many games to get out of trouble, but they're unbeaten in five now, which is remarkable considering how dead and buried they looked a few weeks ago. Getting a result at Ewood Park is a big ask, however, and this is a home banker for me.

Prutton predicts: 2-0 with Bradley Dack to score first (15/1 with Sky Bet)

Burton v Nottingham Forest, Saturday 3pm

Burton remain rooted to the bottom of the table and they're starting to get a little cut adrift as some of the teams above them pick up a few results.

This is a big opportunity for them against a hopelessly out-of-form Nottingham Forest. That win at Wolves looks a long time ago now after three defeats on the spin, and they need to turn things around soon. Score draw.

Prutton predicts: 1-1 (9/2 with Sky Bet)

Cardiff v Middlesbrough, Saturday 3pm

It's very much a three-way battle for the second automatic promotion spot right now, with Cardiff hot on the heels of Aston Villa and Derby.

It's looking like it's too little, too late for Middlesbrough to force their way into that scrap, and they need to start winning back-to-back games if they're going to haul themselves into the play-off mix. This will be a bruising encounter which I think Cardiff will sneak.

Prutton predicts: 2-1 (17/2 with Sky Bet)

Fulham v Aston Villa, Saturday 3pm

This should be a great battle between two of the form teams in the Sky Bet Championship right now, and arguably Aston Villa's biggest test for quite a while.

Steve Bruce's side have been excellent lately and momentum is really on their side at the moment. Fulham have been brilliant lately and it's a tough game to call, but I think Villa will just nab victory.

Prutton predicts: 0-1 (9/1 with Sky Bet)

Sunderland v Brentford, Saturday 3pm

What a comeback that was from Sunderland at Bristol City last week, I don't think any of us saw that coming! It was still only a point, though, and they need to use that result to start getting some wins on the board to try and claw their way out of trouble.

Brentford's play-off push has come to an abrupt halt in the last couple of weeks, and they'll be desperate for a win on Saturday to get themselves back into contention. I think they'll have too much for Sunderland. Away win.

Prutton predicts: 0-2 (9/1 with Sky Bet)

Barnet v Accrington, Saturday 3pm

Accrington have emerged as the closest challengers to runaway leaders Luton in recent weeks, and are flying again with four wins on the spin.

Barnet's win against Notts County last weekend came out of nowhere, and while they were beaten at Yeovil in midweek they should still carry some hope from Saturday. But this is a Stanley win for me.

Prutton predicts: 0-1 (6/1 with Sky Bet)
