Two goals in the opening quarter of an hour gave the home side the win.
Ian Stevens crashed in the first after just nine minute and when Scott Dobie made it two six minutes later, the home faithful started to breathe a sigh of relief.
Blackpool crashed six goals past sad Scunthorpe in a game that swung in the 11th minute when Steve Torpey was sent off for deliberate handball and Paul Simpson blasted home the penalty.
The home side relaxed into the man advantage and five different players got on the scoresheet as The Tangerines cruised to the three points.
Having hit five against Torquay, John Murphy, Richard Wellens, Brian Reid and Mike Milligan all got on the mark.
Runaway leaders Chesterfield were held to a 1-1 draw at Barnet, despite taking a fourth minute lead through David Reeves from the penalty spot.
However, Mark Arber levelled the game in the 65th minute which allowed Brighton to close the gap to 13 points. Bobby Zamora's strike 15 minutes from the end gave The Seagulls all three points.
Despite their financial troubles off the park, Hull kept their play-off aspirations alive with a 1-0 win at Cheltenham, Kevin Francis getting the only goal of the game in first-half injury time.
The game between York and Darlington was postponed.
