The Bluebirds had a £500,000 offer for the highly-rated centre half rejected earlier in the summer but remain on the youngster's trail.
With Daniel Gabbidon and James Collins currently injured, Cardiff are short of options in the heart of their rearguard.
Bluebirds chairman Sam Hammam was an interested spectator at The Robins' Division Two clash against Bournemouth last Saturday.
His Ashton Gate counterpart Steve Lansdown admits he would not be shocked if Coles was the subject of Hammam's interest at Dean Court.
Lansdown concedes there have been no fresh offers for the 21-year-old stopper but is bracing himself for new bids from Coles's suitors.
"Sam Hammam was positioned just a few seats away from me and we didn't speak, so I wouldn't like to speculate on why he was at that particular game," revealed Lansdown.
"I wouldn't be surprised, though, if Cardiff or anyone else continued to watch Danny and we will not be surprised if there are more enquiries about him.
"At this moment we have not received a renewed offer from Cardiff, or any other club, and we're certainly not inviting any.
"Danny is a quality player who is getting better all the time and we want him in our team for as long as possible."
