First Division outfit Cardiff City had a £500,000 bid for the centre half rejected at the start of the summer but remain hot on Coles's trail.
There has also been interest from several other clubs in Division One with The Robins determined to hang on to the highly-rated stopper.
Coles is under contract at Ashton Gate until June 2005 and has no immediate designs to leave the club for a bigger stage.
Instead, the 21-year-old's agent John Mac has confirmed Coles wants to sit down with the Robins' paymasters and thrash out a new contract.
"It's time we got together with the chairman with a view to sitting down and talking about Danny's future," said Mac. "It has been a couple of years now since there was any firm discussion about his contract and we would like to think he could get an improved deal at Bristol City sooner rather than later.
"Although it's nice that there has been interest in him from other clubs and that he's clearly progressing, I know he is very keen to continue playing for City.
"There have been a few enquiries from First Division clubs about Danny, including Cardiff, of course, who have asked to be kept abreast of his situation.
"Danny is certainly not seeking a move and he would dearly love to secure his future with his hometown club."
