Danny Dichio settled an ill-tempered game in which three men saw red.A first half penalty from Danny Dichio boosted Millwall's hopes of promotion as they beat relegation-threatened Cardiff 1-0 at Ninian Park.
Dichio scored from the spot after 20 minutes after his goalbound header had been handled in the area by James Collins.
But the game was marred by the dismissal of three players in injury time at the end of the match following a mass brawl.
Referee Michael Jones sent off Millwall's Alan Dunne for violent conduct, before several players from each side became involved, resulting in further red cards for David Livermore and Collins.
Cardiff thought they had equalised immediately after Dichio's penalty when Junichi Inamoto headed in from close range, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
Alan Lee then headed wide from Graham Kavanagh's free kick before Republic of Ireland midfielder Kavanagh fired a shot inches wide of the post from 30 yards.
Kavanagh went close once again after the interval when his shot from the edge of the area was brilliantly turned wide by Andy Marshall and Cardiff were denied once again when Matt Lawrence headed Jobi McAnuff's shot off the line.
Cardiff's defeat, only their second in nine games, leaves them just six points clear of the relegation places, while The Lions are three points off the play-off pace.
