The stopper joined the Welsh outfit in the summer on a season-long loan deal and has made a positive impression on manager Dave Jones.
Cardiff are back on a more stable footing and Jones is planning for the future, with the Bluebirds chief tabling an offer to the Dutch outfit for the rugged defender.
The offer was given short shrift by the Kuip club's paymasters, but they have left the door open for Cardiff to return with an improved bid.
With the transfer window due to slam shut on Tuesday evening, the two clubs may withdraw from the negotiating table until the summer.
Meanwhile, Bluebirds striker Stuart Fleetwood has joined Nationwide Conference side Hereford United on a free transfer.
