Whittingham confident he will shake off groin strain for Wembley date

Peter Whittingham is confident he will recover from a groin strain in time to be fit for Cardiff City's Championship play-off final against Blackpool. The Bluebirds' top scorer suffered the injury during Wednesday's second leg of the dramatic semi-final success over Leicester City at the Cardiff City Stadium. Whittingham was replaced just before the end of normal time after his penalty had earlier ensured the thrilling tie went to extra-time. He is now battling to be fit for the Wembley showdown with Blackpool on Saturday 22nd May, but is optimistic he will be ready to aid Cardiff's bid for a place in the Premier League.

Confident

"I'm confident I'll be fit for the final," Whittingham told the club's official website. "I'll be with the physios for a few days, but we've got 10 days before the final and hopefully it will all be fine. The physios are always brilliant and I'm sure it will be fine. "I just felt my groin. I should be alright and it was just precaution to take me off. "We didn't really want to be carrying anyone in a predicament like that, heading into extra-time, and the gaffer made the decision which I think is fair enough. "I knew it was hurting and you do what is best for the team. I thought that I couldn't give 100% and I came off."
