Rangers manager Walter Smith has confirmed the club are trying to sign Stoke's James Beattie and Portsmouth's Tommy Smith.
Pompey revealed on Wednesday that the club were in talks with Gers over the signing of 30-year-old striker Smith.
Now Smith has admitted they are in talks for his namesake at Fratton Park, while revealing Beattie is also on his wanted list.
Beattie has slipped down Stoke's pecking order after a bust-up with Tony Pulis last year and they are now ready to sell following the signing of Sunderland's Kenwyne Jones.
Smith is desperate to bolster his attacking options and has also not given up hope of landing Rapid Vienna's Nikica Jelavic.
"We are currently in negotiation with both Stoke and Portsmouth with regard to the signing of James Beattie and Tommy Smith," he told the club's official website. "Hopefully we can manage to conclude both deals.
"We are still progressing the move to sign Nikica Jelavic but I must admit the longer it goes the more doubtful I become over whether it will happen.
"There have been more complications in that one than we imagined. A lot of these things don't go smoothly and this one certainly hasn't. But we haven't given up on that one.
"It's been frustrating because these dealings have been on-going for about three weeks now but hopefully we can clear things up in the next day or two. We hope Beattie and Smith would be tied up for Saturday."
