Bluebirds boss sets focus on promotion bid

Malky Mackay is determined to ensure Cardiff's Championship campaign does not suffer a hangover in the wake of their Carling Cup heartbreak. Liverpool came out on top in Sunday's Carling Cup final after a dramatic 3-2 penalty shoot-out victory following a 2-2 draw at the end of extra time. Cardiff now switch their attention to trying to win promotion to the Premier League, with the Bluebirds currently in the play-off positions in the Championship and Mackay has called on his side not to lose their focus after going so close to winning the Carling Cup. "I will give them [the players] a couple of days off to relax and get over it and then go back in Wednesday, talk about it, park it and then we will get on with the other 14 games we have got this season because it is important we don't lose sight of that," Mackay told Sky Sports News. Mackay admitted he was proud of everyone connected with the club for the way they went about their business against Liverpool. "I think everyone just had their own thoughts of what could have been," added Mackay. "It was very, very close and I had an immense sense of pride in the way the club handled itself at the final, both our fans and staff in terms of build-up and then the 90 minutes and the way everyone conducted themselves on the day is just indicative of the way the football club is now."
