Federico Macheda has said that his main reason for joining Cardiff City was because of the presence of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the club’s manager.
The Italian striker moved to the Championship outfit on a free transfer earlier this summer after his contract with Manchester United came to an end.
Macheda was considered as one of the most promising players in England during the early stages of his career at United, but he failed to make the most of his chances and played on loan for a number of clubs in the last three years.
However, the former Lazio youngster is determined to kick-start his career at Cardiff, and says legendary United striker Solskjaer’s presence at the Welsh outfit was a key factor in him choosing to join the Bluebirds.
“Maybe I did miss a few chances in the past, but I have grown up as a man and a footballer,” the 23-year-old told Wales Online. "Now I understand the need to concentrate fully in every match and work hard.
"I have confidence I will build on this start. Cardiff have given me a great chance. I know the manager and all the staff here and that’s why I came.”
Macheda scored on his competitive debut for Cardiff against Port Vale to help them to a 3-2 away victory in the second round of the Capital One Cup on Wednesday and is looking forward to the next stage of the competition.
“Manchester United are out – that’s a big surprise – but we’d love to draw a Premier League team at home,” he said.
