With The Pilgrims entering their centenary season next year, the former St. Johnstone and Dundee United manager has offered new deals to seven members of his current squad while deciding to release four other players ahead of next term.
Hasney Aljofree, Paul Connolly and Micky Evans have all received new two-year deals while Martin Phillips and Andy Watkins have received new one-year contracts with the Devon outfit.
Steve Adams receives a two-year extension to his current deal while Ian Stonebridge gets a one-year extension to his current contract.
However, the former Dundee United and Scotland striker has also decided that Stuart Malcolm, Kieran McAnespie, Osvaldo Lopes and Paul Bernard are surplus to requirements and will not be receiving new deals with The Pilgrims for next season.
Sturrock feels financially bound to keeping a small first team next season and with the desire to add new players in the summer, the Scot admitted that some of his current squad had to leave.
"If Plymouth Argyle were in a different league, a different ball park financially, I would have kept a lot of them because they have done very well for me," Sturrock told the club's official website.
"But circumstances have arisen that people who are in the same position as them are under contract."
