Rochdale have dismissed reports of a bid from Plymouth Argyle for Grant Holt.Rochdale have dismissed reports of a bid from Plymouth Argyle for Grant Holt, while the club's hopes of signing Jon Daly from Stockport County have been dashed.
Rumours had suggested that Championship side Plymouth had lodged a bid for striker Holt, who has scored 16 goals this season.
But Rochdale boss Steve Parkin has scotched talk of an offer from The Pilgrims, although he did acknowledge they have been watching Holt in recent weeks.
"We just have to accept this is part and parcel of football and I can't make a statement or pass comment on every little rumour that is knocking about," Parkin told the club's official website.
"Plymouth are in the market for a striker and Grant is just one of several strikers they have been watching in recent weeks.
"Even so no official approach of any nature has been made to myself or the club."
Meanwhile, Parkin has revealed that he has been unable to lure Stockport forward Daly to Spotland on a temporary basis.
Daly, who spent time on loan at Grimsby Town earlier in the season, has forced his way into the plans of new Stockport boss Chris Turner, scuppering Rochdale's prospects of snaring his services.
Parkin added: "Jon Daly was one player I was interested in and it would have been nice to bring him in on loan.
"However, since I made my enquiry and was turned down, he has scored three goals in two league games so I would suggest any possible move in the near future is now completely out of the window."
