The London club, missing 11 first team regulars, took their chances against a workmanlike Rotherham team.
Palace started the brighter but took the lead after Rotherham had been on the attack.
A cleared corner broke out to Dele Adebola who galloped from inside his own half through the static defence to square the ball for Black to poke it home.
Rotherham found themselves two behind just before the break as Shaun Derry laid in Julian Gray who ran on and fired a low left footed drive past Mike Pollitt.
Richie Barker had a header rightly disallowed for offside early in the second half but minutes later Black curled in a Christmas cracker to put Palace 3-0 up.
Rotherham managed to get on the scoresheet when Aki Riihilahti handled in the box giving the home side a penalty.
Alan Lee saw his spot kick saved by Alexanders Kolinko but substitute Darren Byfield reacted quickest to bravely poke home the rebound.
The result leaves the Eagles sitting in ninth place in the table just three points off the final play off berth.
