Looking to bounce back from last weekend's 4-1 mauling at the hosts made the worst possible start and found themselves a goal down after just seven minutes.
Kenny Lunt broke a couple of challenges and crossed into the box for Dean Ashton to power home from close range.
One became two on the quarter hour mark when Lunt again played the provider, this time setting up Luke Varney who fired a shot over Thomas Myhre.
Crewe continued to dominate and Varney and Stephen Foster both had chances to extend the lead before the break.
The home fans made no secret of their frustration, but the visitors resumed where they had left off in the second period.
Palace did though grab a lifeline with twelve minutes remaining when Danny Butterfield drilled in his second goal of the campaign.
It proved to be false hope for The Eagles, however, as Ashton took advantage of an error from Myhre on 84 minutes to convert and condemn the South Londoners to their fourth home defeat of the season.
The win moves Crewe up to 11th, while Palace remain rooted in the relegation places in 22nd spot.
