Crystal Palace continue to plot a raid on Internazionale.
Although Kily Gonzalez looks set to reject a move to Crystal Palace, the ambitious Eagles could still make a double swoop on Internazionale.
Iain Dowie is fully aware of the need to bring in new recruits as his side currently lie bottom of the Premiership table with a tough season ahead.
"We need some more quality, that's clear and we'll hopefully work on that in the next day or so," he said after the defeat to Chelsea on Tuesday night.
Gonzalez is currently in Greece competing in the Olympic Games for Argentina but he has apparently indicated that he is unwilling to accept a switch to Selhurst Park.
Espanyol would be a more attractive option for the midfielder, whose agent confirmed to Inter officials that there is a bid on the table from Palace.
However, Dowie is also keen on Nicola Ventola and giant defender Gonzalo Sorondo.
The early suggestions are that this pair are more interested in moving to South London although striker Ventola is also a target for Messina.
Gonzalez is unlikely to figure in Roberto Mancini's side next term but is hoping his performances in the Olympics attract other suitors.
