The summer arrival from Internazionale has seen his bid to pin down a place in the starting line-up at Selhurst Park hampered by a hamstring strain.
Palace boss Iain Dowie is hopeful Fitz Hall's return from injury will help off-set the loss of the Italian, who sits out the Carling Cup tie at Manchester United on Wednesday night.
"He will be out for four to six weeks," said Dowie.
"It's a big blow to us.
"He's been terrific; always in the right place at the right time.
"He's a good player and we'll miss him.
"But I hope we'll have Fitz Hall back from his knee injury sooner or later."
