Iain Dowie insists he has not given up hope of persuading Wayne Routledge to stay.Crystal Palace boss Iain Dowie insists he has not given up hope of persuading want-away winger Wayne Routledge to sign a new deal at Selhurst Park.
The 20-year-old incurred the wrath of Palace fans earlier in the campaign by revealing he plans to quit the club when his contract expires in the summer.
Tottenham have been linked with a move for Routledge who has enjoyed an impressive first campaign in the top-flight.
However, Dowie is hoping to try and convince the player to stay put and will turn his attention to that task once Sunday's relegation conundrum is resolved.
"We offered Wayne a new deal which he declined," he stated.
"I think he'll be a top player. He's developing, has hunger for the ball and can play at any level - he's a future international.
"He has fantastic feet and his ball retention is excellent.
"I want him to stay and the time for that discussion is for after the weekend.
"He's a good lad - I have a lot of time for him - and he just wants to play football."
