Gills swoop for Inniss

Gillingham manager Peter Taylor has bolstered his defensive options by signing Ryan Inniss on a youth loan.

The 18-year-old, who had a spell at Luton earlier this term, joins from Crystal Palace - where he is yet to make a first-team appearance - and will stay with the Gills until the end of the season. Taylor told the club's official website: "He's a very good centre-half and probably a future captain wherever he is, hopefully for him still at Crystal Palace because I'm sure he will want to break in to their first team. "He's a leader; he's a really good talker. "I'm sure Ryan will come here and do very well, he's an old fashioned centre-half but I think he will be very good news for us. "We had him watched at Luton so we know about him and I think Luton were fighting desperately hard to keep him but he wants some experience in League One so it's very good news for us and its filled another slot I was desperate to fill. "We have 15 matches to go and we are looking in quite good shape now." Meanwhile, Charlie Allen has had his contract cancelled by mutual consent. Allen joined the Gills from Notts County on a free transfer in July 2012 and spent 18 months at the Priestfield Stadium, making 42 appearances and scoring two goals. Taylor said: "He's been absolute first class and he hasn't been one problem to me and if any football clubs out there want to phone me or decide to phone me about him it will only be positive things."
