Crystal Palace were held to a 0-0 draw by Bundesliga side FC Augsburg in their final pre-season friendly.
The Eagles produced a resolute defensive display, but lacked attacking bite as they prepared for their opening Premier League encounter at Arsenal next Saturday.
Julian Speroni easily dealt with two long-range efforts from Daniel Baier as the hosts made a lively start, while at the other end new signing Fraizer Campbell saw his shot blocked after a neat turn.
Campbell’s header then tested the host’s keeper Marwin Hitz, but Augsburg ended the half on top as Tim Matavz volleyed over before Tobias Werner headed wide.
Wayne Hennessey replaced Speroni at the break and was soon forced into action, palming away Marcel de Jong’s effort and then repelling Raul Bobadilla’s volley.
The introduction of substitute Dwight Gayle added a cutting edge and his long-range effort was kept out by Hitz before Barry Bannan curled a free-kick against the post.
Gayle’s close-range effort was then ruled out for offside and the striker was frustrated again late on, failing to force the ball past Hitz after racing onto Joe Ledley’s clever through ball.
