Former West Brom manager Steve Clarke has told Sky Sports he would be interested in the vacant Crystal Palace job.
Clarke, 50, was sacked from his post at the Hawthorns last December despite leading the club to their best ever points total in the Premier League and their highest league finish since 1981 the previous season.
Palace, meanwhile, are without a manager following the resignation of Tony Pulis before the start of the season and the scandal over discriminatory messages ended Malky Mackay’s hopes of taking the job.
Speaking on Goals on Sunday, Clarke said: “The Premier League is the place to work so if a job becomes available then obviously I’d be interested in it.
“I want to work again. Palace went down a route to find a successor to Tony but now the job is available again maybe they’ll come up with a new list.
“If I’m on it then great, if not then I have to respect that. Palace have to make their own choice.”
Clarke, who was assistant to Jose Mourinho at Chelsea before stints in the same position at West Ham and Liverpool, was not interviewed for the Palace job when co-chairman Steve Parish spoke to Mackay and Tim Sherwood last week.
But the former Chelsea defender says he spoke to a number of clubs over the summer, one of them new Indian Super League franchise Goa.
“I had good chats with one or two decent clubs but obviously you have to get a feel for a club for yourself,” he said.
“I spoke to the Goan franchise. We’ve had some discussions but there’s nothing concrete in that either. The ISL is a good project.
“I’m going to take my time – I’d like to be back as quickly as possible but not I’m not in a great rush. This is only the second time in 33 years that I’ve sat out a pre-season.”
