It is doubtful that boss George Burley would pay a seven figure sum for Lester (pictured), as he will be available for nothing in the summer unless he signs a new contract with The Mariners.
Burley confirmed his intention to boost the club`s Premiership promotion push. "I made two substantial offers," said Burley. "Bigger money than this club has ever spent, but was knocked back each time. Now I am waiting to hear from another club."
Burley has a substantial war chest at his disposal following the £7 million sale of Kieron Dyer to Newcastle, but he is unlikely to follow up his earlier interest in Tromso`s Norwegian international Rune Lange after being quoted £2.5 million.
Burley has also enquired into the availability of Crystal Palace`s Matthias Svensson, but he again would be a six figure purchase.
