Speaking to the club's official website, U's boss Roy McFarland admitted that, although he was keen to offer Logan a full-time contract, it was highly unlikely that Ipswich would allow the 19-year-old to leave Portman Road.
"The situation with Richard is that Ipswich still very much fancy him and it's not as if he's on the outside of anything," said the Abbey Stadium chief.
"He's a young boy and, at this stage of his career, they feel it will do him the world of good that he comes here first and has first team football.
"With Ipswich almost on your doorstep, it's a club that we will monitor and see if we can look to take somebody who's not going to make the grade with them," he continued.
"We've monitored him over the last two years in terms of his development through the youth team and into the reserves."
