George Burley has confirmed his interest in an Englishman and some rumours had linked Town with a raid for Under-21 international Prutton.
Forest, however, insist no bids have been received for the 19-year-old, who has been representing his country in Greece.
"He is English and is with a lower league club," admitted Burley, in reference to his latest target. "His club don't want to sell and it looks as if that is the end of the matter."
Leyton Orient's Matt Lockwood has also been forwarded as a possible candidate, but he is a full back rather than a midfielder, leaving the guessing game to go on at Portman Road.
Although George Burley denied speculation originating from Holland, linking him with a bid for Marc Nygaard, the Dane has admitted he is attracted by the prospect of moving to Suffolk, but the latest player on the Scot's hit-list would appear to be a separate target.
Burley was happy to dismiss the links with Prutton, Lockwood and Hartlepool's Tommy Miller.
"I have no interest whatsoever in Prutton," he affirmed. "Some of the stories flying about at the moment are ridiculous.
"People are just pulling names out of a hat."
