The 31-year-old has been on the lookout for a new club since being released by The Bhoys at the end of last season.
Royle is keen to sign a keeper this summer, with Italian, Matteo Sereni, seeking to stay in Serie A after playing last season on loan at Brescia and Andy Marshall been given a free transfer, with fellow Division One side Stoke City showing interest in him.
"The goalkeeper has been recommended to us and we will have a look at him on the tour," Royle told the club's official website.
Broto has been linked with a move to Scottish Premier League side Hearts before Jambos boss Craig Levein played down any interest in signing the Spaniard.
The former Airdrieonians and Livingston keeper will hope to impress the Portman Road outfit while on trial and earn a contract for the upcoming campaign in Division One.
Before moving to Scotland, Broto enjoyed a number of spells in Spain with Castellon, Villarreal, Real Zaragoza and Malaga.
Town have also taken defender Steve Towers on trial from non-league Oadby Town, who play their football in the Midland Alliance.
Meanwhile, Town chief executive Derek Bowden confirmed that talks are ongoing between the club and Serie A side Lazio for Sereni.
"Talks have been taking place between the club and Lazio about Matteo and at the moment, are on-going," said Bowden.
