Town close in on Davis

IPSWICH are reported to be close to unveiling Wimbledon goalkeeper Kelvin Davis as their new signing.

Portman Road boss Joe Royle has made a new goalkeeper his top priority this summer and he has turned his attentions to Davis.

Having handed free transfers to Andy Marshall and James Pullen and let Matteo Sereni leave, Royle is short of options between the sticks.

Royle is currently holding talks with the former Luton ace and is hopeful of sealing a deal before the weekend.

Wimbledon are resigned to losing the custodian as they struggle in administration and with the player having just one-year to run on his contract they would prefer to sell him for a nominal fee rather than risk lose him for nothing next summer.

Davis is highly-rated and has attracted the interest of Everton and Birmingham in the past.
