The Lions have now won four of their last five games, but this victory was all the sweeter because it was against a side that went into the day level on points with them.
Ipswich had started the stronger, but, after Shefki Kuqi wasted a couple of chances, substitute Neil Harris handed Millwall the lead.
Harris had been rested from the starting line-up with Mark McCammon given the nod, but an injury to the latter gave him the chance to come on, and he wasted no time in scoring from close range.
Harris then turned provider for the second, with defender Darren Ward heading home after the striker had crossed.
Just after the break Harris added his second, his header crossing the line despite the last-ditch efforts of the Ipswich defence.
Darren Bent did grab one back for the hosts, turning in from close range - but it was too little too late for Ipswich who will be keen to put this performance behind them.
