Mowbray knows Murray well from his time at Portman Road and is now casting his eye over him with a view to taking him on loan.
The 20-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and does not appear to feature in Joe Royle's long-term plans.
Hibernian need to bolster their midfield after Craig Rocastle returned to Chelsea following a loan spell at Easter Road.
"Antonio is training with us for a few days. He is a young boy from Ipswich who hasn't progressed as much as he probably should have done for a lad with his talent," said Mowbray.
"I want young hungry footballers so it's a chance for us to assess if he falls into that bracket and it's also a chance for him to look at the club and have a look at the city.
"Joe (Royle - Ipswich manager) is happy for him to train with us and it's just a case of waiting and seeing how he does."
Chris Hogg is also interesting Mowbray, but he injured himself over the Christmas period and will remain with Ipswich until he regains fitness - but could be a long-term target for Hibs.
Mowbray already has one former Ipswich player on his books in the shape of Sam Morrow.
