Hamstring tear for Lee

Ipswich Town striker Alan Lee was ruled out for three weeks with a hamstring injury.

Ipswich Town have been dealt an injury blow after striker Alan Lee was ruled out for up to three weeks with a hamstring injury.

The Republic of Ireland international limped off during Tuesday's 2-1 victory at bottom club Crewe Alexandra with a tear in his hamstring.

The January signing from Championship rivals Cardiff City had a scan on his hamstring, with the East Anglian outfit confirming the 27-year-old's absence.

"Alan has a small tear at the top of his hamstring," Town physio Dave Williams told the club's official website.

"It could have been a lot worse, but we are still looking at three weeks out."

Lee's absence is sure to disappoint Ipswich boss Joe Royle, with the striker having found the scoresheet four times in his first six appearances since moving to Portman Road.

Meanwhile, Ipswich youngster Dean McDonald is hoping to earn a new contract with the Suffolk outfit.

The striker, who turns 20 on Sunday, scored Ipswich's winner after coming on for the injured Lee at Crewe.

McDonald, who was the subject of a failed bid from League One strugglers Hartlepool United last month, hopes finding the scoresheet on Tuesday can lead to a bright Ipswich future.

"It's great to get off the mark and the fact that it was the winning goal meant even more to me," McDonald said.

"Now my aim is to help us get into the play-offs and earn myself a new contract.

"Hopefully, I have already made a bit of a statement to the manager."
