Jim Magilton has moved to cool talk that Neil Alexander is to join Ipswich Town imminently.

The former Cardiff goalkeeper was rumoured to be heading for Portman Road after being released by The Bluebirds at the end of last season.

Alexander revealed recently that clubs in the Championship and SPL were interested in acquiring his services.

Magilton has confirmed Alexander is an option, but played down reports the Scotland international is close to signing for The Tractor Boys.

"We are aware of Neil's situation but it's no more than that at this stage," Magilton told the club's official website.

Meanwhile, Owen Garvan has travelled with the rest of the Ipswich squad to Loughborough ahead of pre-season games against Burton Albion and Kettering.

The midfielder returned to Dublin last week for personal reasons but is now back with Magilton's men.

"It's good to be back training again and I'm looking forward to the trip to Loughborough," Garvan said.
