Holland eager to keep striker

Crewe boss Steve Holland is desperate to ward off interest in Nicky Maynard from Premier League and Championship clubs. The 21-year-old striker, who has come up through the ranks at Crewe, scored 15 goals in the second half of last season after recovering from injury. His performances did not go unnoticed and Ipswich are understood to have lodged a bid for his services. Premier League trio Middlesbrough, Fulham and Hull have also been linked, while Bristol City are another interested party. Holland believes Maynard should stay in League One for now and is reluctant to let the youngster go. He told the club's official website: "I'm dreading that call coming for Nicky because we want to keep him here. "I think he would benefit considerably by playing a full season with us, I think he has only played 50 games in his career so far. "If we can avoid injuries, I think he has the ability to go on and finish as the leading goalscorer in League One next season."
