David McGoldrick has set a target of 15 goals this season as he looks to prove himself to the Nottingham Forest fans.
The 22-year-old striker is closing in on a first-team return after making his comeback for the reserves in Tuesday's 1-1 City Ground draw with Rotherham.
McGoldrick has yet to feature for Billy Davies' men this term and missed the entire pre-season programme after undergoing shoulder surgery.
Davies is confident the Nottingham-born forward can impress after a disappointing debut campaign following his move from Southampton.
And McGoldrick has admitted it makes a big difference to his confidence having the public support of his manager.
McGoldrick told the club's official website: "It was encouraging to hear his comments. It gives you a lift when you have a manager who believes in you like that.
"My aim now is to score 15 goals this season, to repay the faith he has in me. I want to respond to the backing he has shown.
"I do feel like I have a point to prove to Forest fans, but I believe I can score goals. You have to have belief in yourself, you have to back yourself."
