Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy says the injury suffered by striker Brett Pitman in Tuesday’s pre-season friendly with Cambridge United is not serious.

The forward, who joined the club as part of the £8m deal that took Tyrone Mings to Bournemouth, limped off shortly after scoring in Ipswich’s 3-2 victory over their League Two opponents at the Abbey Stadium.

"It's not too serious, just a bit of bruising,” McCarthy confirmed on the club’s official website.

"He had ice on his foot and he said he was fine, but as soon as the second half kicked off we could tell he wasn't fine so we took him off as a precaution.

"Thankfully it's nothing serious and he's fine."

Pitman, 27, scored 14 times last season for Bournemouth, helping Eddie Howe’s side clinch promotion to the Premier League.
