Gary McSheffrey and Julian Joachim have been firing on all cylinders of late, and they left Burnley reeling when they combined to open the scoring in ten minutes.
A long ball by Steve Staunton played in McSheffrey and his cut-back gave Joachim the chance to volley home and set the home side on the road to victory.
Burnley's Paul Weller then wasted a chance to level - hitting the side netting from a tight angle, but McSheffrey then doubled the lead on 33.
The striker had just seen a poor shot saved by Brian Jensen, but seconds later the ball came back in and the goalkeeper's failure to claim let him head home at the far post.
Five minutes later it was 3-0 and the match was over as a spectacle.
Jensen felled Joachim in the area, and McSheffrey lashed home the resultant penalty with aplomb.
The second half saw Coventry claim a fourth from an unlikely but popular source - when Muhamed Konjic headed home to cap a great day for The Sky Blues.
Burnley are now fourth bottom - and Stan Ternent has a battle on if he is to keep The Clarets in Division One.
