Norwich chief executive David McNally claims the club are searching for a manager with 'top-level' experience to succeed Paul Lambert.
The Canaries find themselves without a boss following Lambert's decision to take the reins at Premier League rivals Aston Villa.
He has left Carrow Road with Norwich cemented in the top flight following a remarkable rise from the third tier.
Numerous candidates have been linked with their vacant managerial post, with former fans' favourite Malky Mackay reported to figure prominently on the Canaries' wish list.
He has never coached in the Premier League before, though, and Norwich are setting their sights on a man who has proven himself at the highest level.
Calibre
McNally claims the club will be casting their net far and wide in their efforts to make the right appointment, with it possible that a coach could be drafted in from abroad.
He told the
Eastern Daily Press: "When we appointed Paul Lambert he was the right appointment because we were in League One and he had the relevant experience. Our position has changed fundamentally.
"Norwich City are playing in the Premier League and whoever we appoint will be somebody with experience of management at the top level.
"The successful candidate does not necessarily need to have Premier League experience. If there is somebody who has managed successfully in Serie A, La Liga or Bundesliga then we would certainly consider their application. After all, they are some of the toughest leagues in the world.
"Why should we say no to somebody of that calibre just because they have not managed in the Premier League?"
