The Scotland international joined Norwich on a free transfer following the liquidation of Rangers this summer, but suffered an injury in a pre-season friendly against Celtic.
He made his first appearance for Norwich in last week's Capital One Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur before retaining his place for the win over Stoke.
Whittaker said: "No one wants to get injured coming to a club but once I got my head around that, I concentrated on my rehab and came in against Spurs and tried to do well.
"We won that game; I played okay and held my spot. We are picking up momentum and it is important we do pick up points at home."
The full-back was also pleased that manager Chris Hughton stuck with him for the win over the Potters, adding: "It was playing on my mind, having two games in a few days. I wasn't sure how I would handle it.
"It was important that I recovered from Wednesday and did the right things.
"I felt okay against Stoke. The manager showed faith in me by putting me in and hopefully I repaid some of that. It was difficult with the reshuffle as I started on the right and ended up playing at left-back."
