A few weeks ago the Canaries looked safe, but in recent weeks they have been on the slide again.
Importantly, they have been beaten by other teams down at the bottom: Wigan, Stoke and - on Saturday - Aston Villa.
Gabby Agbonlahor's last-minute goal in Villa's 2-1 saw the visitors leapfrog Norwich into 13th place, with City now 15th, just three points clear of Wigan who are third from bottom, though the Latics have a game in hand.
Hughton has therefore put any thoughts of parties on hold and he expects a response next weekend in the club's final home game against West Brom.
"We have put ourselves in this position, now we have to fight and show the good things which we did against Villa," said Hughton, who has decided against extending the loan spell of Kei Kamara, who returns to Major League Soccer.
"But the areas which resulted in them scoring the goals, we have to nullify that.
"We will have to come out fighting against West Brom next weekend and get a result."
