The visitors endured a miserable afternoon and were 2-0 down at half-time courtesy of a double from Jonathan de Guzman.
Norwich improved slightly after the break but Wayne Routledge added a third to put the contest beyond Hughton's side.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game the former Tottenham assistant admitted his side had been poor and deserved to lose.
He said: "They were far better than us and the scoreline was a fair reflection.
"They were sharper than us and we have found it difficult away from home.
"We've tried different ways. We have tried to sit back and catch teams on the break but we are reliant on keeping the ball well and we didn't do that enough today.
"We just gave the ball away too cheaply and they are a side that penetrate very quickly and when that's the case you've got to defend better against them."
Despite the defeat though, Hughton thought his team continued to give their all.
He added: "There's always commitment from the team. Were we good enough today? No we weren't.
"Were they sharper to the ball than us? Yes they were.
"The preparation was good going into the game because we were on the back of a good win against Sunderland.
"There's no other reason for us being poor today other than we were just poor on the day.
"Our work on the ball wasn't good enough and we gave the ball away too cheaply.
"It's difficult away from home but I would have expected to make it tighter.
"We have tried different formulas but it's about producing on the day and we haven't today.
"Swansea are a good side but we made them look good as well.
"We want to alleviate some pressure on ourselves quickly and it looks like our best chance of doing that will be at home."
Norwich face West Brom at Carrow Road in the Premier League next weekend.
