Sunderland and Aston Villa have been drawn away in the first round of the Carabao Cup, at Bury and Colchester respectively.

The Black Cats, who finished bottom of the Premier League last season, must travel to Gigg Lane on the week commencing Monday, August 7.

Villa suffered a humiliating away defeat against League Two Luton Town at the same stage last season. The Hatters have again been paired with Championship opposition this time round, hosting Ipswich Town.

Wimbledon host Brentford in the South Section while Wigan Athletic have been drawn at home against Blackpool.

The other relegated clubs from the Premier League, Hull and Middlesbrough, have been given a bye to the second round. The draw was regionalised to avoid long travelling time.

Premier League clubs enter the competition at the second round stage except for those with Champions League entries, who come in for the third round draw.
