The Sky Blues have agreed an initial fee of £750,000 with the Scottish Premier League side, which could rise to £1.5 million depending on appearances, and Strachan is confident that Naysmith, who celebrates his 22nd birthday next week, has what it takes to be a success in the Premiership.
"He's at a good age, he's hungry, he wants to get better," Strachan told the official Coventry website. "He's self-motivated, he likes to fight - that's mentally fight and physically fight as well.
"He's the kind of player we need at this club. You definitely need to be self- motivated when you come to this club."
Naysmith is set to travel to Coventry this week to hold talks over his proposed move to England, and Strachan is hopeful that the facilities at the Premiership club can persuade the player to make the switch.
"We're hoping to get him down here and hopefully he likes us, likes our set-up and what I've got to say," added the fiery Scotsman. "Then he'll hopefully join the club."
Meanwhile, David Thompson is to see a specialist in Holland, as he looks to cure his persistent hamstring problem. The former Liverpool midfielder is to see the same specialist that former team-mate Michael Owen consulted to solve his injury problems.
