The 21-year-old was brought in by Hatters boss Mike Newell in August following the sale of Tony Thorpe to Division Two rivals Queens Park Rangers.
Since then, McSheffrey has been instrumental in putting the Kenilworth Road club on the fringes of the play-off places in the Second Division with some scintillating goals.
His performances for the Bedfordshire side have prompted Newell to think about a permanent move for McSheffrey, though the club's finances may not allow for it.
"Gary has agreed to sign for another month," Newell told the club's official website.
"He's done particularly well and the goals have been a massive bonus.
"We're happy with the way he's worked and he's enjoying his football and if he wasn't, then he wouldn't have committed himself to another month.
"We would obviously like to do something more permanent but it just isn't possible at the moment."
