Luke Rodgers proved the man on the spot as he rescued Crewe a point at Coventry.Luke Rodgers proved the man on the spot as he stepped from the bench to secure Crewe a 1-1 draw at Coventry.
All had looked lost for Crewe, trailing from Don Hutchison's first half opener, but six minutes into injury time, Rodgers netted what could prove to a valuable equaliser with his first touch.
An even first period saw City have the better of the early exchanges as in-form Gary McSheffrey went close before, on 32 minutes, Hutchison grabbed his second goal in as many games.
The Scottish midfielder has been in great form since arriving on loan from fellow strugglers Millwall and had the home crowd in raptures when he volleyed home from McSheffrey's delivery just past the hour mark.
Dele Adebola and Micky Doyle could both have put the game beyond Crewe, but, after the break, Steve Jones fired in a warning that City, ultimately, failed to heed.
Adebola had another saved before Doyle saw red, after picking up for a second booking following a cynical obstruction on Jones.
Despite having a numerical disadvantage, Coventry remained in the ascendancy, with Abebola and McSheffrey both missing good chances.
An inability infront of goal would prove to cost City dearly, as Rodgers stooped to head home a Kenny Lunt cross deep into injury time.
