QPR new boy Ariel Borysiuk is set to miss the start of the season after suffering an ankle injury.

The 24-year-old Poland international midfielder became QPR's first signing of the summer when he was signed from Legia Warsaw last month on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

But Borysiuk did not feature in Tuesday's 1-1 friendly draw at Northampton and R's boss Jimmy Floyd Hasslebaink said: "He has twisted his ankle. It is something we can't do anything about.

"He is a strong boy but we think it is going to be six weeks."

On a brighter note for QPR fans, another new arrival in midfield, Jordan Cousins, came on for his debut in the second-half at Sixfields.

Hasselbaink liked what he saw of the former Charlton player and said: "Jordan is naturally fit and that helps.

"We need more goals from midfield and he brings with him that urgency with how he plays."

Hasselbaink was happy enough with how the match went at Northampton, even though Alex Revell levelled for the Cobblers with four minutes left, after Nasser El Khayati had given QPR an 80th-minute lead.

He told the club website: "It was good practice but frustrating at times, because they had 11 behind the ball.

"We were very slow, especially in the first half. But we are in pre-season, and I felt the second half was a lot better.

"We needed to play with a higher tempo because they were sitting, and were not going to take the initiative, but that provided us with a good test."
