Championship round-up: Brighton slip up, Sheffield Wednesday and Reading claim wins

Brighton missed the chance to return to the top of the Sky Bet Championship after slipping to a surprise 3-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest.

Zak Clough (two) and Ben Osborn netted at the City Ground to secure a first win in five matches for Forest.

Brighton, who were defeated 2-1 by leaders Newcastle on Tuesday, remain in second spot but have now played two more matches than third-placed Huddersfield.

Forest stay in 18th place, but are now six points clear of the relegation zone.

Yann Kermorgant and Paul McShane were on target as fifth-placed Reading claimed a 2-1 victory over Wolves at the Madejski Stadium.

Ben Marshall had equalised for Wolves, who played out the closing stages with 10 men after Mike Williamson received his marching orders for a second bookable offence.

Wolves drop to 21st and sit just a point above the drop zone.

Sheffield Wednesday consolidated their place in the play-offs with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Norwich at Hillsborough.

Goals from Ross Wallace, Morgan Fox, Jordan Rhodes (two) and Fernando Forestieri ensured sixth-placed Wednesday dealt a major blow to Norwich's chances of securing a top-six spot.

Cameron Jerome scored for the Canaries, who are now nine points behind the Owls in eighth.

Fulham kept up their pursuit of a play-off spot with a 3-1 win over Preston North End at Craven Cottage.

Sone Aluko, Chris Martin and Neeskens Kebano netted for the Cottagers, who sit five points behind Wednesday having played a game less.

Tom Barkhuizen scored what proved to be only a consolation for ninth-placed Preston.

Derby came from behind to earn their first win in seven matches, defeating Barnsley 2-1 at Pride Park.

Matty James put Barnsley in front shortly after the break, but goals from Tom Ince and David Nugent secured a morale-boosting three points for the Rams.

Derby move above Barnsley into 10th, with the Tykes dropping a place to 11th.

Aston Villa claimed their third successive victory with a 2-0 win at bottom-club Rotherham.

A second-half own goal from Will Vaulks set Villa on their way to securing three points at the New York Stadium, with Jonathan Kodjia netting in the closing stages.

Villa move up two places to 13th following the win in south Yorkshire.

Nico Yennaris cancelled out Emyr Huws' opener to earn Brentford a 1-1 draw against Ipswich at Portman Road. Ipswich move up a place to 15th, while Brentford drop a place to 14th.

An own goal from Jazz Richards gifted Queens Park Rangers a 2-1 victory over Cardiff at Loftus Road.

Sol Bamba had put Cardiff in front on half-time, but an equaliser from Yeni N'Gbakoto and Richards' intervention saw Rangers claim the points.

Rangers move up to 16th, while Cardiff stay 12th.

Marvin Emnes grabbed the winner as Blackburn boosted their chances of survival with a 1-0 victory over relegation rivals Wigan at Ewood Park.

Rovers have moved out of the bottom three as a result and up to 20th, while Wigan remain in 23rd.

Bristol City have replaced Blackburn in the drop zone after being held to a goalless draw at home to 19th-placed Burton.
