Steve McClaren's representatives are in talks with QPR over the vacant Loftus Road manager's job, Sky Sports News understands.
The Sky Bet Championship side dismissed Ian Holloway on Thursday after he could only guide them to 16th place.
Former England manager McClaren worked as a coach at the club under Harry Redknapp, in the summer of 2013, before leaving for Derby County that autumn.
McClaren's last role in England, which was a second spell in charge of the Rams, came to an end in March 2017.
Since then, McClaren has worked as a consultant for Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv, who he left just after Christmas.
He has also managed Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United in the English game, as well as two spells in the Netherlands with FC Twente and just under a year with German Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.
Les Ferdinand, the QPR director of football, said that Holloway, who will receive a settlement on the final year his contract, will "always be welcomed back to Loftus Road with open arms".
Ferdinand also said: "His enthusiasm and passion for the club can never be questioned and we are immensely grateful to him for helping us during his time here."
