The former Blackpool star has been admitted to Tony Adams's Sporting Chance clinic, where he will spend the next month in a bid to overcome his problems.
Holloway has backed the player and said that the club will do all they can to help him.
"He was very honest and very open," Holloway told the club's official website.
"He admitted that he needed help. I was totally convinced that the lad wants a full recovery - it's an illness and he does need help.
"I admire his strength - the feller's had to stand up and everyone at the club just wants him to be well again.
"His transfer value is irrelevant. He's not for sale at any price. We have a duty to make him well for the rest of his life.
"Whether we agree with his previous behaviour or not, it is a difficult world that we live in."
